The 19-year-old Stafford man rang in the New Year from behind bars after attempting to outrun members of the sheriff's office before crashing his Camaro, officials say.
At around 2:20 p.m. on Sunday afternoon, deputies spotted Zalmai speeding at 90 mph in a posted 45 mph zone on Richmond Highway near Twin Brook Drive.
When a deputy attempted to stop him, Zalmai began speeding up and weaving through traffic, according to the sheriff's office.
Zalmai was too fast and furious for his own good as he topped 100 mph onto I-95, prompting others to join the police pursuit.
Officials said that Zalmai exited the interstate onto Centreport Parkway, but the 90-degree turn before Mountain View Road proved to be his undoing as he smashed into a guardrail.
Zalmai was taken into custody and two underage relatives were also located inside the Camaro. They were taken to area hospitals to be evaluated for minor injuries.
Following the crash, Zalmai was charged with felony child endangerment, eluding, reckless driving, and cited for excessive window tint.
He is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.
